Grabanski, Donald Hilary The end of a wonderful story: It all began when Donald Hilary Grabanski was born on April 17th, 1940 in Roseau, MN to Delphine (Kulas) and Stanley Grabanski. He had an adventurous childhood leading to his high school graduation in Greenbush, MN. One of his most prized adventures was his time of service in the army. He began with basic training in Colorado and was then off to serve in Germany. His return to the USA began a new chapter which led to Barber School in St Paul, MN. After graduating, he began his barbering career in Wabasha, MN then continued it in Thief River Falls, MN. This is where the biggest adventure of all began Family. While working in a barbershop, he would have lunch in the coffee shop next door. Little did he kn ow his waitress, Marlyce Schweitzer, would become the love of his life. They married May 4, 1963 with love, excitement, anxiety and determination for a family life well lived. The beginning of their 57-year journey together quickly brought their four child ren, Matthew, Michelle, Melanie and Melissa creating a family life full of chaos and adventure! He proudly co-owned the Model Hair Shoppe where he was able to philosophize daily with clients a.k.a. B.S. He was also honored to serve as a County Commissioner for Pennington County, be a member of the American Legion, Eagles, Elks Lodge and a past President of the Jaycees. After closing the Model Hair Shoppe, he worked earnestly for Woodmen Construction primarily at Digi-Key. In 2006, he and Marlyce moved to Mi nnetonka, MN to be near their children and grandchildren. Don finished his career with At Last Barber Shop. He needed something to do in retirement, so he joyously worked at Target Field in Guest Services where he relished engaging with many new and old fr iends each shift. Don loved nothing more than being with family, friends or anyone willing to listen to and share stories. It was his gift for sharing adventures, laughing with others and loving life that drew people to him. On May 4, 2020, surrounded by h is wife and children, his life ended but like any good story it is never forgotten. The end is always a new beginning. He is survived by his wife Marlyce and their four children: Matthew: married April Trudeau; children Gabriel and Esther; Michelle: marrie d Bill Pohlad; children Oliver; Melanie: children Jacob and Haley Dudley; Melissa: Marc Valls; children Xavi of San Francisco, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Clarence. He leaves his siblings Mary, Tom, Mike, Roseanne and their famil ies. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Augustana Open Circle, Hopkins or the MN Twins Community Fund. Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 Published on May 10, 2020
