Martin, James F. 96 years, passed away Friday night at Covenant Living in Golden Valley, MN. He was a 1941 graduate of Washburn High School in Minneapolis. James enlisted in the US Navy in December 1942 and was the commanding officer of a submarine chaser in the Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June 1946. In 1949, he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked at Boeing Corporation in Seattle, Washington; Cornel Aeronautical Lab oratory in Buffalo, New York; and in 1987 retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge Tennessee. James was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina. During his life, he enjoyed watercolor painting, piloting small aircraft, playing the gu itar, raising bonsai and writing haiku, calligraphy, windsurfing, swimming, and playing cribbage. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Kathryn S. Martin; four sons, five granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. Published on August 26, 2020
