Salomonsen, Malena Minneapolis, Minnesota. Malena was born in Welcome, Minnesota on April 3rd, 1909 to Anna Mabel and Frederick Wilhelm Vanstrom. She grew up in Lynd, Minnesota. She died in Rochester, Minnesota on February 26th, 2010. Malena was a graduate of Winona State Teachers College and the University of Minnesota. She began her teaching career in Bloomington, Minnesota and for many years until retirement taught at the Woodale Elementary School in Edina, Minnesota. Malena is survived by daughter, Gloria (Kermit) Gill; son, Frank (Beverly) Salomonsen; daughter, Susan (Grant) Volkman; sisters, Mary Sweadner, Peggy Cobb and Iris (Edward) Slettom; and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, E.F. (Solly) Salomonsen; sister, Wilma Foster; and brother, Frederick Vanstrom. Malena was a longtime member of Lake Harriet United Methodist Church, P.E.O. - Chapter AF, Lake Harriet Chapter of the Eastern Star, Retired Educators Association of Minnesota and Delta Kappa Gamma. Honoring Malena's request there will be no service. Published in Star Tribune on March 3, 2010
