Akins, Donald Owen Died on May 29, 2021 at age 87 of Edina after complications from a fall. Preceded in death by his parents Agnes and Clifford Akins, survived by loving wife Marcia married 63 years, sons Dan (Susan) of Edina, Jim (Tracy) of Eden Prairie, daughter Susan Sorenson (Tom) of Hartland, WI, seven grandchildren (Mike, Steve, Paul, John of Hartland, Kathleen Akins of St. Paul, Kyle and Mandi Akins of Eden Prairie. Survived by brother Dean Akins of Minnetonka, sister Leone McGlone of Minnetonka. Do n was a 1952 graduate of Edina High School, 1958 graduate of U of MN Mechanical Engineering, member of DKE fraternity, served as a Lieutenant in US Air Force. Worked for 10 years for Mobil Oil Corp, 10 years for Martin Machine Tool, and 26 years for Stone Machinery. Don was devoted to his wife Marcia, loved his family and had a special place in his heart for each and every grandchild. He had countless friends and a wonderful life. If a person had a legacy, it would be for Don's love of trains. His basement was filled with HO gage model trains. His proudest moment with trains was founding the St. Croix Railroad in 1970, located near Hudson, WI. Funeral Service the following Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Noon with visitation one hour prior at the Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Private Interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
