Calhoun, Lorraine Swanson was born at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis on November 26, 1909 and went home to be with her Lord Jesus on July 1, 2012. She attended Central High School and then left for New York City, where she met and married her husband of 50 years, John C. Calhoun III. They lived in Scarsdale and New York City where Lorraine first worked as an assistant to John Jacob Astor and left that job to accept a position as an editor of Reader's Digest. After Jack retired they moved first to Florida and finally back to Lorraine's hometown, Minneapolis. After Jack's death, Lorraine lived in Friendship Village in Bloomington, where she resided until her passing. Lorraine had a smile that lit up the room and her remarkable resemblance to the Queen of England had all her friends calling her Elizabeth or Queenie. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage and had a close relationship with her cousins who live in Hyltebruk, Sweden. Lorraine was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ellen and Carl Swanson, her sister, Arlene Witmer, her brother Lloyd (Bud) Swanson, her nephew, John Witmer, and her great-niece, Kirsten Swanson. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eileen Swanson and 1 niece, 3 nephews, 8 grand nieces and nephews and 9 great-great grand ni eces and nephews. Services for Lorraine were held on Thursday, July 5 at Lakewood Chapel. Memorials are preferred to either Friendship Village or Mt. Olivet Church Cathedral of the Pines Camp. Lorraine's family wishes to thank all her wonderful caregivers at Friendship Village. www.Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 Published in Star Tribune on July 8, 2012
