Building a better Lakewood | Learn about our new Welcome Center

Birding at Lakewood
October 9, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
About this event
Join Lakewood for this Sunday morning stroll at our popular Birding at Lakewood event, as we learn more about the birds that call Lakewood home. Birding expert Amy Simso Dean will take you on a stroll through the south end of Lakewood, near Roberts Bird Sanctuary, to learn more about the different species of birds that you can see while exploring our peaceful grounds.
This is a walking event. The walk will be a slow pace on easy to moderate terrain, but we strongly encourage proper, close-toed footwear. We will walk approximately 1.5 miles during this event, seating will not be available throughout the walk.
All levels of birding are welcome. We will have a brief lesson at the start of the event discussing the basics of birding and talking about local birds, after this you are welcome to explore the area more independently or follow along with our guide.

Location
This event takes place near scenic Jo Pond (Lakewood’s onsite lake) about a half mile from the main gate. Event signs will be posted guiding you to the event location. Click here for GPS directions to the event site via Google Maps (Please note: this route may differ from the posted signs.)
About Your Instructor
Amy Simso Dean has been birding for over 25 years. She is vice chair of Audubon Chapter of Minneapolis, founded MYBirdClub (an after school birdwatching club for kids) and co-founded Womxn’s Bird Club of MN. She works part time at The Raptor Center and is a citizen representative on the Minneapolis Tree Advisory Commission.
