Join Lakewood for a welcoming and relaxed sketching class that focuses on the foundations of drawing such as shape, form, and composition. Your instructor, Ann Solyst, will walk through the peaceful and reflective art of outdoor sketching while working with attendees to encourage exploration through their own personal style of drawing. With a variety of buildings, monuments, and landscapes, Lakewood is the perfect place to quietly sketch or draw, no matter what your chosen subject or style is.

What to bring

Lakewood will be providing all necessary materials for this event. If you would prefer to bring your own materials, a list will be sent out to all attendees prior to the event.

About your instructor

Minneapolis based painter, Ann Solyst, has been building her career in the Twin Cities area since 2011. She primarily works in Oil paint and hard pastels. Her colors are often vibrant and her focus more on communicating sensations than a strictly realistic representation of her subject. Organic shapes, textures, and clean colors give her work a life and an energy that is neither messy nor stale, but energetic, compassionate, and captivating.

Ann’s work often revolves around nature themes. Whether that be, stones, roots, water, plants and animals, her art is about life.

Ann has received several awards including the Powderhorn Art Fair Invitational Award, Art in Bayfront Park, Festival Favorite in Drawing Award, and the AAUW Art Fair on the Green Best in 2D Award. She is also membership chair of the Lake Country Pastel Society.
