Our Memorial Experiences Tour is for anyone curious about Lakewood’s unique offerings. It highlights memorialization and ceremony options for those who choose cremation, as well as some of the distinct experiences Lakewood provides. 

What to expect 

An informative and inspiring tour focused on places designed for gathering, celebrating and remembering in nature. From communal scattering gardens to biodegradable urns, you’ll learn about the latest offerings, as well as meaningful ceremonies and events that bring loved ones together in this 250-acre urban oasis.   

Highlights include: 

  • Meet in Lakewood’s beautiful, state-of-the-art Welcome Center 
  • Learn what makes Lakewood an accredited Level 2 Arboretum 
  • See the scattering, memorialization and ceremony options at Waterside, a newly developed site on the shore of Lakewood’s private lake 
  • Explore the diverse memorialization and ceremony options at the spectacular new Lakeview – an area within Lakewood overlooking Bde Mka Ska 
  • Make a tribute to a loved one at the vibrant Living Memory Tree  
  • Glimpse the breathtaking architectural beauty of the Garden Mausoleum and Memorial Chapel 
  • Return to the Welcome Center for refreshments and Q&A

Transportation and parking 

Driving: Feel free to park anywhere along Lakewood’s roads unless otherwise noted with a no parking sign. Please do not park or drive on the grass. 

Biking: Bike parking is available near the front gate at 36th and Hennepin. Please do not lock bikes to trees. 

Bussing: A bus stop is also available right outside of Lakewood’s gate, just a short walk from the Welcome Center.

Accessibility information 

  • The tour will visit various sites via trolley; guests will get on and off and walk short distances on paved roads and turf grass. 
  • Tour guides use voice amplifiers. 
  • If you wish to attend using a wheelchair or scooter, please email us at events@lakewoodcemetery.org so we can make arrangements to accommodate you. 

Restrooms 

Restrooms are available in the Welcome Center before and at the end of the tour.  

Cancellations 

The tour will be cancelled if inclement weather occurs or is highly likely in the forecast. If we must cancel, this webpage will be updated, and we will alert registrants by email (from Eventbrite) with at least 2 hours’ notice.
