About This Event

Girls Rise Up believes in the healing power of community and offers girls (ages 8-18) who have experienced mother loss an opportunity to connect with each other through social gatherings. These events provide opportunities for youth motherless daughters to connect and create a community.

Join us the day before Mother’s Day for the Girls Rise Up Mother’s Day Gathering at Lakewood! Girls will enjoy a delicious brunch followed by the creation of a special wind chime craft facilitated by Minnesota Makers. Girls are invited to email a picture of their moms to be framed and shared with the group at a memorial table on the day of the event. We look forward to honoring and remembering our mothers on this special day!

Dressy-casual attire (no jeans please). Safe physical-distancing and masks may be required depending on current COVID-19 MDH and CDC recommendations. Please register by Wednesday, April 27.

All attendees are invited to email a digital image of their mothers to be included in a slideshow presentation at the event. Please find details in your registration confirmation email.

Girls Rise Up is a program series offered through the organization She Climbs Mountains  which is a local organization that provides new events and opportunities for motherless daughters to connect with other women who have lost their mothers. Lakewood is honored to partner with this amazing organization to bring these special Mother’s Day remembrance events onsite to our beautiful Garden Mausoleum, and connect our audience with this organization.

Any women over 19 are encouraged to attend our Mother’s Day High Tea later in the afternoon

Purchasing Tickets

This event is free for all girls ages 8-18. But registration is required.

*Registration deadline is Friday, April 20, 2022.*

About She Climbs Mountains

She Climbs Mountains is a non-profit organization based in the Twin Cities serving adult women and girls ages 8-18 (Girls Rise Up) who have experienced mother loss through death at any age.

Through workshops, informal gatherings, and formal events for women, and social gatherings for girls, the organization is committed to encouraging adult and youth daughters to explore the myriad of emotions and experiences that accompany the loss of a mother.

This community encourages women and girls to grieve openly, share their stories, ask questions, nurture themselves and each other, examine the loss of their mothers, and seek joy and gratitude in a secure environment with the goal of creating a safe, supportive, and loving sisterhood.

The Lakewood Garden Mausoleum

This event will take place in the upper level reception space of our beautiful Garden Mausoleum. This modern building was designed in 2012 by HGA Architects and serves as both an active mausoleum and a community space, making it the perfect location for grief and remembrance events.

Signs will be posted directing you to the event location or click here for GPS navigation through Google Maps.

Parking

Parking is available on any of the roads inside Lakewood’s gates unless otherwise noted with a no parking sign. Handicap parking will be available near the building entrance. Lakewood does not have an onsite parking lot – it is street parking only. This means you may have to park a short distance away and walk.

Bussing

There is a bus that stops right outside of Lakewood’s gates, the Garden Mausoleum is about two “city blocks” away from the entrance.

Biking

There is a Nice Ride station available on 34th/Hennepin, and 36th/Bryant, just a few blocks away from our front gates. Lakewood has one small bike rack near the front gates. Please do not lock bikes to any of our signs or trees.

Covid-19 Safety Protocol

At the request of our event hosts, the following safety protocols are in place:

  • Proof of vaccination or a negative covid test within 72 hours before entering the building
