Join Yoga Sanctuary, a nonprofit studio on the east side of Lake Harriet, for a meditative guided yoga practice on the lawn by the new Welcome Center at Lakewood.
All people—brand new and experienced yoga practitioners—will enjoy this energy balancing practice promoting strength, flexibility, balance and clarity in this beautiful and inspiring venue. We will use mindful movement and guided breathing techniques to help settle our thoughts, flowing and holding postures to support the physical body, and rest to connect with the soul. Modifications to ease or intensify poses will be sprinkled throughout the class.
These drop-in yoga sessions happen every Saturday throughout the summer, and you do not need to register or get a ticket.
What to Bring:
- Yoga mat
- Water bottle
- (Optional) Sunscreen
- (Optional) A sheet to put under your yoga mat

Location: Lakewood Welcome Center Lawn
Between Lakewood’s new Welcome Center and our 1929 Administration Building, is a beautiful open space with a mix of shade and sun, perfect for outdoor reflection. A nearby water feature provides a serene backdrop for this meditative and reflective yoga practices.
Parking and Transportation
Driving Directions
Feel free to park anywhere along Lakewood’s roads unless otherwise noted with a no parking sign. Please do not park or drive on the grass.
Bus Directions
A bus stop is located right outside of Lakewood’s gates. Please refer to the Metro Transit website for the most up to date information about bus lines and schedules.
Bike Directions
Biking at Lakewood is permitted to and from and event, service, or grave. Lakewood has several small bike racks. Bike rack locations are noted on the map below.
Please do not lock bikes to any of our signs or trees. Please use caution when biking through Lakewood and yield to any vehicles or machinery. A 20mph speed limit is enforced. External speakers playing music are not permitted at Lakewood.
Our cemetery roads were not designed for biking. Unlike city streets, there are no stop signs or traffic signals. Often, people driving in the cemetery may be grieving and distracted. Because of this, recreational biking is not encouraged.
FAQs
Do I need to register for this event?
There is no registration. This is a free, drop-in session. All are welcome!
Will we have access to restrooms and water?
Restrooms and water are available in the Welcome Center which opens at 8 AM.
What is the plan for bad weather?
In the event of rain, storms, extreme heat or smoke, this session will be cancelled. Please refer to this website prior to heading to the event if you are unsure.
