Family Basket Planting

We decided to cancel this activity due to the Covid-19 situation, but we're hoping to bring it back next year!

About this activity

We’re introducing a new family basket planting activity in the greenhouse this year.

Between March 16 and April 3, you can plant a beautiful flower basket in memory of a loved one at Lakewood — and we’ll grow it in our greenhouse so it’s ready for you on Memorial Day.*

It's a special opportunity to reflect on shared memories and stories of loved ones as you plant, and to experience our historic greenhouses when they are full of flowers as we prepare for spring. Open to all individuals and families with loved ones here at Lakewood, we encourage parents, grandparents and children of all ages to participate. Cost is $20 per basket.

How it works:

1. Make an appointment by calling 612-822-2171 or email to info@lakewoodcemetery.org.

2. Plant your flower basket. We'll have a workstation set up in our greenhouse where you can choose starters in a variety of color combinations to create your basket.

3. We'll care for your basket as it grows in the greenhouse — and it will be in full bloom for Memorial Day!

4. Pick it up on Memorial Day weekend, May 22-May 25, at the flower tent near the front gates, and place it at your family or loved one's grave or in the mausoleum when you visit that weekend.

Where to check in

When you arrive at Lakewood for your planting appointment, meet our staff in the main office of the Administration Building (pictured below).

For parking, turn left after you enter our front gates and park along the nearest road in front of the building.

Don't forget to bring $20 cash, check or credit card for each basket you would like to plant.
