Join Yoga Sanctuary, a nonprofit studio on the east side of Lake Harriet, for a meditative and reflective guided yoga practice on the lawn by the new Welcome Center at Lakewood. Every Sunday throughout the summer, teachers will lead a holistic, mindful yoga practice.

All people—brand new and experienced yoga practitioners—will enjoy this energy balancing practice promoting strength, flexibility, balance and clarity in this beautiful and inspiring venue. We will use mindful movement and guided breathing techniques to help settle our thoughts, flowing and holding postures to support the physical body, and rest to connect with the soul. Modifications to ease or intensify poses will be sprinkled throughout the class.

We welcome all to join us for this weekly offering, to hold space for ourselves to reflect on the week before, be present in the moment, and provide a relaxing start to the week.

What to Bring:

  • Yoga mat
  • Water bottle
  • (Optional) Sunscreen
  • (Optional) A sheet to put under your yoga mat

About the Lakewood Welcome Center Lawn

Nestled between the new reflecting pool at the Welcome Center and our historic Administration building, this tree-covered green spaces allows access to the both shade and sun, while also providing a cozy, secluded spot away from the bustle of the city outside of our gates. This space provides a number of accessible paths, patio seating for the community, and nearby street parking.

As an arboretum, Lakewood is dedicated to providing new ways for our community to engage with nature and the vast green space of Lakewood. This beautiful open area, surrounded by native plants and pollinator gardens, is the perfect place to enjoy nature in the heart of the city.

Registration is free and not required. However, we encourage you to register to help us keep track of numbers and alert you to any changes regarding each session.

Restrooms will not be available at Lakewood until the Garden Mausoleum and Community Mausoleum open at 10am. If you utilize the restrooms in these spaces, please me quiet and respectful as families may be visiting loved ones in this space.
