Music in the Chapel: Twin Cities Hot Club
October 1, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Music in the Chapel
The Music in the Chapel series showcases an eclectic range of performers and local musicians for musical performances that showcase the acoustical charms of this historic and unique architectural landmark, right in the heart of the city.
About Twin Cities Hot Club
The Twin Cities Hot Club (TCHC)represents Minnesota in the burgeoning revival of gypsy jazz originally popularized by Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and the Hot Club of France during 1930’s Paris. TCHC recreates not only the famous la pompe (the pump) that distinguishes this romantic brand of acoustic jazz, but also gypsy bossanova, musette, bolero and swing. TCHC perform this timeless deep-rooted music that is physical and speaks directly to the heart.
The Historic Lakewood Memorial Chapel
This event will take place in the beautiful and historic Lakewood Memorial Chapel. This stunning building was built in 1910 by architect Harry Wild Jones, and is modeled after the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. It is one of the only examples of Byzantine style chapels in the US, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Click here for more information on the Lakewood Memorial Chapel.
Signs will be posted directing you to the event location or click here for GPS navigation through Google Maps.
Bike parking is also available at a bike rack near the front gate.
Parking
Parking is available on any of the roads inside Lakewood’s gates unless otherwise noted with a no parking sign. Handicap parking will be available near the chapel entrance. Lakewood does not have an onsite parking lot – it is street parking only. This means you may have to park a short distance and walk. We strongly encourage carpooling and taking public transportation.
Bussing
There is a bus that stops right outside of Lakewood’s gates, which is a short walk to the chapel.
Biking
Please park any bikes at the bike rack to the west of the main entrance. There is a nice ride station available on 34th/Hennepin, and 36th/Bryant. Do not lock bikes to trees or signs, or leave unlocked bikes on the grounds.
