Maintenance Facility Project

Caring for Lakewood means investing in it today. This project helps ensure the grounds remain a beautiful, welcoming place where people can gather, reflect, and honor loved ones for generations to come. As we make these updates, we’re working thoughtfully; respecting the natural landscape, reducing disruption for visitors, and improving key facilities. Together, these efforts support our growing community while preserving the care, beauty, and experiences that make Lakewood special.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is being built? Lakewood is replacing its outdated maintenance building with a much needed maintenance facility that accommodates modern operational, efficiency and green initiative needs.

How long will construction last? Construction is slated to begin in July of 2026 and last for approximately 18 months.

Will existing gravesites be disturbed? Absolutely not, the construction area has never been used for burials and the surrounding lots will not be disturbed.

Will this close off visitation to parts of the cemetery? No, construction zones will not overlap with existing gravesites. During construction there may be some temporary road closures inside Lakewood, but these closures will be listed in the headlines and updates section of this webpage and clearly marked with signage on cemetery grounds.

Will grounds maintenance stop during construction? No, operations will temporarily be based out of the greenhouses and admin building.

Will this limit parking? The project is taking place in the southern part of our property. Parking for the mausoleums, chapel and Welcome Center will not be impacted. Road parking may be impacted as small sections of road could be temporarily closed during specific aspects of the project. Alternative parking areas and route signage will be displayed in impacted areas.

Will there be construction noise? There may be some typical construction noise during work hours, which are limited to Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Overall, any noise should be short-term and kept within those scheduled hours.

Will this disrupt traffic? Work on this project will not affect city roads, and no closures will occur. At times, there may be a temporary increase in truck traffic as work progresses.

How does this project impact our commitment to the community?

Stewardship

Caring for Lakewood takes more than planning ahead. It takes the right support to sustain it over time, and by investing in updated facilities we are helping ensure this special place continues to feel cared for, welcoming, and lasting while protecting the beauty of the landscape and making sure future generations can experience Lakewood with the same sense of dignity, comfort, and connection as people do today.

Respecting the space

Construction is planned with great care to protect what matters most. Burial sites, memorials, and historic areas will be carefully avoided, and every step of the work will be carried out with respect and attention. We are equally mindful of the natural surroundings, taking time to work around the existing landscape, trees, and environmental features so that Lakewood continues to feel like the peaceful, beautiful place people know and cherish.

Care you can count on during construction

Construction is planned with care to limit disruption and help visitors feel comfortable throughout the process. Work areas and access routes will be clearly marked, construction hours will be thoughtfully managed, and advance notice along with on-site signage will help guide visitors so they can move through the grounds safely and with as little interruption as possible.

Making room for what’s next

Updating essential facilities helps Lakewood continue to grow and support those we serve. These improvements strengthen a dedicated and diverse team, create space for new tools and better ways of working, and deepen our commitment to conserving water and energy. Thoughtful features include a green roof on the support building, while the main building features bird-safe lighting and windows, solar panels, and a rainwater harvesting system. Together, these elements help support the landscape, reduce environmental impact, and preserve the natural beauty of Lakewood.
