Your loved one’s marker is an important part of honoring and remembering them and will last for many generations to come. Here are some cleaning and caretaking tips to best care for markers.
Granite
- Remove all dirt, debris, and dust.
- Wash with water and dish soap. Avoid using any oil-based products on granite.
- Wash with a stiff bristle brush. Do not use any type of wire brush or power tools.
- If needed, use a plastic putty knife to remove moss.
- Let air dry.
- To reduce the chance of scratching, do not leave any items directly on top of the marker.
Bronze
- Remove all dirt, debris, and dust.
- Wash with purified bottled water using a stiff bristle brush. Do not use any type of wire brush or power tools.
- Dry with towel or let air dry.
- Apply lemon oil onto the bronze. Always test any product you use on the maker for results before cleaning the entire marker.
- Rub with cloth or rag until surface is evenly coated.
- A second coat may be needed or, if time allows, a soaked towel can be placed over the memorial for serval hours to assure full penetration of the bronze surface.
- To reduce the chance of scratching, do not leave any items directly on top of the marker.
