Are you trying to gauge the day fall colors will be at their peak at Lakewood? We can’t guarantee a prime color day, but we can guarantee peak fun at our annual Fall Colors Celebration on Sunday, October 19, from 10 AM–2 PM. Our festive open house includes activities for the whole family!
Live Music
Enjoy a four-piece string band, Uncle Kenny, from 10 AM–Noon. With rich vocal harmonies, energetic instrumentals and thoughtful arrangements, Uncle Kenny brings a fresh twist to traditional music. You’ll delight in a performance both nostalgic and full of surprises.
From Noon–2 PM, the harmony-rich duo Suzy Plays Guitar will entertain with their unique sound featuring both rhythm and lead guitar over lush vocals.
Interactive Activities
If the stunning foliage sparks your creativity, enjoy pigment painting using local plants. Artist Kim Boustead leads this activity. You can also paint a mini pumpkin to celebrate fall’s harvest.
Lakewood is a Level 2 Arboretum
Lakewood is home to a biodiverse tree canopy of more than 4,000 trees, thousands of shrubs and specialty plants, myriad wildlife, and a thoughtfully planned ecosystem. To help care for this treasure trove—you could say treasure grove—we partner with Ostvig Tree Care. Ostvig’s friendly team will be onsite at Fall Colors to get to the root of all your tree questions.
You can also hike along on a Legacy Trees of Lakewood walking tour. A Lakewood volunteer leads tours at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM. This three-quarter mile exploration will be filled with plenty of fun facts and fall views as you learn about our arboretum, tree diversity and tips to identify different tree species. The tour lasts just over an hour.
Prefer to wander? Chart your own path with self-guided options. Step inside our historic Memorial Chapel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and see one of the finest examples of Byzantine mosaic art in the United States.
Decorate a ribbon in honor of a loved one and tie it to the Living Memory Tree. You can also see prompts for our Focus on the Seasons photo contest, and try a Nature Quest, or use our history map to find stories tucked among the headstones.
Join Us!
We hope you’ll enjoy our urban arboretum—a place where nature and remembrance dwell side by side. Spend an unhurried fall day with us and make space for joy and memory. Bring a friend, bring your family or come solo and let the trees keep you company.
