Just as each death experience is unique, so is each family’s journey in celebrating the life of a loved one.
One Family’s Story
Recently, a family came to Lakewood seeking support after the loss of their beloved grandfather. “We’d already held a large memorial service for Pops in the winter,” granddaughter Marlene explains, “so we planned on a simple graveside gathering in the spring. But as the date approached, we felt a bit lost. Lakewood suggested adding a celebrant, which made all the difference.”
Lakewood’s certified funeral celebrant guides families through every step—from planning all the meaningful details of the ceremony to offering warm support on the day of the gathering.
“Megan met with us,” Marlene continues, “and helped us add lots of personal touches. We chose some readings, a favorite song that he and Grandma loved, and as a group, we decided who would speak. I appreciate Megan’s guidance. She helped us create a loving, second tribute for Pops.”
A Personalized, Compassionate Service
Our celebrant takes time to understand each family’s story to create a ceremony that feels deeply personal. Working closely with each family, our celebrant can help select meaningful music, readings and remarks. Other custom services include creating a program sheet for guests to follow during the service, along with helping the family organize a small, meaningful takeaway item for guests.
Support on the Day of the Gathering
On the day of the gathering, the celebrant serves as a knowledgeable, compassionate presence—welcoming guests, leading the service and creating a space where memories can be shared. While most services include around two dozen guests, our celebrant can lead groups of all sizes, whether it’s an intimate family gathering or a larger memorial. They will ensure everything flows smoothly, and they can also lead the witnessing of the interment, if desired.
Beautiful Locations
Services can take place throughout Lakewood, from our tranquil new Waterside Terrace and Pier to our stunning, historic Memorial Chapel. Families can also choose either our Garden or Memorial Mausoleum, or hold a gathering at a loved one’s memorial site, including a grave or a niche.
